A Memoir of Faith & Surrender
And the God Who Never Left
Honest. Humorous. Deeply human. A journey through heartbreak, unexpected grace, and the peace found in trusting the One who guides it all.
Betsy Gray once believed her story would mirror the happy endings she grew up watching in the movies. Instead, life took her down roads she never planned — through heartbreak, single motherhood, desperate prayers, and moments when the path forward seemed impossible to see.
"She was never meant to carry it all alone."
From raising a blind lamb on a Montana ranch to witnessing extraordinary answers to prayer, from painful lessons about letting go to learning how to recognize God's voice, Betsy's journey reveals what happens when we stop striving — and start leaning in.
These stories are honest, sometimes humorous, often surprising — and deeply relatable.
What happens when you finally stop trying to hold everything together.
Learning to lean on the One who already knows the path ahead.
Real-life moments where prayer was answered and God's presence was undeniable.
The quiet that comes when you place your life in God's hands.
It began with two newborn "bum lambs." I cradled one in my arms, feeling its tiny heartbeat against my chest. Warm. Soft. Vulnerable.
Ewes have two teats. If they bear triplets, one is rejected. These were called bum lambs — Rejected, helpless, and exposed.
They mirrored my own wounded heart. I would love them.
All this came about when I was asked if I would like a couple of bum lambs for my kids. Being new in town, living on a ranch in Montana, it seemed reasonable. I said yes.
Word spread quickly that I would take in animals in need. Though local ranchers viewed animals differently from a SoCal girl, they were not unkind. Soon, my ranch was filled with orphaned chickens, geese, kittens, puppies, horses, and many bum lambs.
Through lambing seasons in knee-deep snow, they taught me their trade.
And so, I became a shepherd.
